The Concord Market Days Festival began in 1974 as Old Fashioned Bargain Days by a group of downtown merchants in Concord, mainly to clear out aging inventory. The sidewalk sale offered great deals, and attracted visitors to the downtown area. As the years went by, the event expanded and changed. In 1980, Main Street was closed to vehicles for the entire three days of the festival, and marked a shift from just a shopping event to a full community festival, featuring music, a beer garden, and entertainment for the entire family. By 1993, the event was known as the Market Days Festival, and despite the many changes over the decades, the commitment of the community and downtown businesses has remained. It was fun looking at the old posters from past events, so I put a few together here to reminisce the old times. It will be our fourth appearance at the event, so please join us as we celebrate the 52nd Anuual Market Days this Thursday-Sunday June 25, 26 & 27.
